Job Purpose for the Assistant Pre-Closing Officer
An Assistant Pre-Closing Officer is responsible for completing an initial review of the loan packages submitted by our participating lenders. Each package is to be reviewed to ensure that the lender has provided the Agency with the necessary documents needed for review. This person must not be familiar with not only PHFA documents, but the documents required for Fannie Mae, FHA, VA, RD and Freddie Mac.

Essential Functions for the Assistant Pre-Closing Officer
- Split, sort and assign Underwriting/Pre-Compliance files from lenders.
- Inform lenders of the status of their loans.
- Re-generate approval and amended approval notifications.
- Delete cancelled and ineligible loans from the AS/400 system, as needed.
- Be able to field general questions from lenders and other business partners related to PHFA’s
HOME loan programs.
- Keep abreast of current industry underwriting guidelines including those of Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac, VA, FHA and RHS as provided by Compliance Manager and industry publications.
- Discuss programmatic issues at periodic compliance unit meetings
- Attend quarterly division meetings.
- Complete special assignments and handle additional duties that may be assigned by the Senior Compliance Officer, the Compliance Manager, another division manager or the division director. Monitor and/or report on any special tasks.
Job Requirements for the Assistant Pre-Closing Officer
- Must have at least a basic understanding of the residential mortgage market and products, including at least one year of mortgage lending experience.
- Ability to multi-task efficiently and exercise initiative and sound judgment in handling work assignments.
- Computer proficiency required in Microsoft Word and data entry.
- Prior mortgage lending/underwriting knowledge not required, but is a plus.
- Good oral and written communication skills and the ability to work independently.
- Effective customer service skills.
- Excellent attendance history required.
- Experience with electronic submission programs such as VirPack, Encompass, etc.
