Company Overview
Abel Personnel is hiring on behalf of its client, a well-established organization seeking an experienced Database Administrator to join their team. This role provides technical support for Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL database environments, ensuring the stability, security, and efficiency of database systems. The position requires one day per week in-office in Harrisburg, PA, with remote flexibility for the remainder of the workweek.
Job Responsibilities:
- Maintain and optimize existing databases, analyzing storage requirements, access time, input/output frequencies, and troubleshooting application/system issues.
- Perform database design tasks, including analysis, logical data model review, and physical database design.
- Manage database structures, backup/recovery, replication, and performance tuning.
- Research and implement new technologies, skills, and methods to enhance database performance.
- Determine table attributes, primary and alternate keys for multiple databases.
- Install and upgrade database software to improve system efficiency.
- Monitor database activity and file usage to ensure optimal performance.
- Troubleshoot and resolve database issues, identifying root causes and recommending solutions.
- Implement monitoring procedures to maximize database availability and reliability.
- Work collaboratively with internal teams and third-party vendors to support database-related projects.
- Assist with infrastructure configurations, database installations, and upgrades.
- Ensure compliance with database development standards and best practices.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field. Equivalent experience will be considered.
- Experience: Two to five years of hands-on experience in database administration.
- Strong working knowledge of database concepts and principles.
- Hands-on experience with a Database Management System (DBMS) such as Microsoft SQL Server or PostgreSQL.
- Proven skills in debugging, troubleshooting, and resolving database performance issues.
- Experience in physical data modeling, database design, and implementation.
- Ability to analyze complex data and provide strategic recommendations.
- Strong understanding of database backup, recovery, and replication techniques.
- Demonstrated ability to learn and support new hardware, software, and operating systems.
- Effective communication skills for explaining technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience in data strategy development and database security best practices.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
