Employee Spotlight: Joellyn H’s Journey of Growth and Connection
Joellyn H’s relationship with Abel Personnel spans decades, beginning with a brief two-week assignment in the late ’90s. But it wasn’t until 2009 when her path truly began to intertwine with Abel’s future, answering an online job posting that would reconnect her with the company. It was there she met Barb Karr, whose understanding and insight would prove instrumental in Joellyn’s career trajectory.
“I liked Barb immediately and felt she really understood where I was coming from and what I needed,” Joellyn recalls. This connection would prove valuable years later when, in 2016, seeking better opportunities, she reached out to Abel once again. Barb’s excitement about a new position would mark the beginning of what Joellyn describes as “the best job I’ve ever had on so many levels.”
The workplace culture at her current company has been transformative for Joellyn. “I’ve worked at places where I walked into the building every morning with a knot in my stomach,” she shares. “But if you can walk into your job feeling just as you would if you were walking into your home, that must be a pretty good place to work. And this office is just that.”
Under the leadership of her current supervisors, along with the continued support from Abel Personnel’s team including Barb Karr and Debby Abel, Joellyn has found a workplace that values personal connection. She particularly appreciates how the Abel Personnel team, despite their busy schedules, takes time to personally deliver holiday gifts and engage in genuine conversation.
Her current role has provided Joellyn with the variety she craves in her work, along with opportunities to enhance her computer skills and form meaningful connections with colleagues. “We don’t get anywhere in life without the help, support, and shared knowledge from others,” she reflects.
The impact extends beyond professional growth. The position has brought significant financial improvement, allowing Joellyn to feel properly valued for her work. This security has enriched her personal life, enabling her to spend more time with family, enjoy antiquing with her sister and niece, or simply relax with a good book and her three beloved cats – Alex, Chloe, and Kaulder.
“When you’re lucky enough to find a position that allows you to feel more secure and less stressed, that inevitably spills over into your private life as well,” Joellyn notes. Her journey with Abel Personnel showcases how the right connection between employer and employee can create lasting positive change both professionally and personally.
